Waller announces retirement in emotional YouTube video

Darren Waller, a Pro Bowl tight end who played eight seasons in the NFL, has announced his retirement. The 31-year-old Waller, who most recently played for the New York Giants, made the announcement in an 18-minute video he posted on YouTube Sunday night.

In the video, Waller revealed that he had a near-death experience during the 2022 season. He said that he suffered a blood clot in his lungs and was rushed to the hospital, where he was given a 15% chance of survival.

Waller said that the experience changed his perspective on life and made him realize that he wanted to spend more time with his family. He also said that he had lost his passion for football.

"I've given everything I have to this game," Waller said. "I've sacrificed my body, my mind, and my soul. But at the end of the day, I'm just a man. I'm not a machine. I have a family, I have a life, and I have dreams outside of football."

Waller was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He played four seasons with the Ravens before being traded to the Raiders in 2019. He played three seasons with the Raiders before being traded to the Giants in 2022.

Waller was a Pro Bowl selection in 2020 and 2021. He finished his career with 341 receptions for 4,435 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Waller's retirement is a significant loss for the Giants, who were hoping to have him as a key part of their offense in 2023. However, it is a decision that Waller has made for himself and his family, and it is one that should be respected.
